Convicted DUI driver held in DUI crash near Fairfax

A convicted drunken driver was charged Friday with another suspected DUI crash that injured himself and another driver near Fairfax, authorities said.
Dale Eugene Stilson, 35, of Petaluma was arraigned on a count of felony DUI causing injury with a prior conviction, said Deputy District Attorney Linda Witong. A plea hearing is pending.

The crash occurred shortly before 5 p.m. Thursday on Sir Francis Drake Boulevard at White's Hill. Police said a westbound 2005 Toyota Tacoma truck spun out on a curve and its rear swung into the front of an oncoming car.

The driver of the pickup was identified as Stilson, said Officer Mary Ziegenbein of the California Highway Patrol. Stilson told police the rear end of the truck slipped out because

As police interviewed Stilson, he was "emitting objective signs of intoxication," Ziegenbein said. The CHP took him to Marin General Hospital for treatment of a cut to his nose and cheek, then booked him into jail.

The driver of the other car, a 2006 Toyota RAV4, suffered chest and rib pain and was taken to Marin General by ambulance. She was identified as Victoria Hunt, 54, of Mountain View.

A passenger in Hunt's car was not injured.

Stilson has a 2005 DUI conviction from another county, according to the CHP. He could face up to four years and eight months in prison if convicted in the new case, Witong said
