San Rafael police arrested 47 drivers - including 39 who were driving without a license - in two central San Rafael checkpoints Friday night.
Police checked for drivers' licenses and sobriety on Grand Avenue at East Francisco Boulevard from 6 to 11 p.m. and on Irwin Street between Fourth Street and Fifth Avenue till 1:30 a.m. Saturday.
At the first checkpoint, 858 vehicles were screened, 2 DUI arrests were made, 37 were cited for driving without a license or on a suspended license, 6 cited for moving violations and 36 vehicles were impounded or towed. At the second checkpoint, 438 vehicles were screened, 2 DUI arrests were made, 5 were cited for driving without a license or on a suspended license, 10 cited for moving violations and 7 vehicles were impounded or towed.
